The Japanese Warner Bros website has revealed a new project called Supernatural the Animation, yesterday.

The series, set to release in January 2011, is to be animated and produced by famed Japanese anime studio Madhouse while Supernatural's creator, Eric Kripke will serve as the project creator. Madhouse's co-founder, Masao Maruyama will serve as executive producer with Shigeyuki Miya and Atsuko Ishizuka co-directing the series. Naoya Takayama will be supervising the series' scripts, and Takahiro Yoshimatsu is to design the characters.

Supernatural the Animation will have 22 episodes that will cover the best episodes from the first two seasons of the original series and will also feature original episodes never seen before, such as prologues of the Winchester brothers' childhood, anime-only enemies, and episodes featuring secondary characters from the live-action version. Yuya Uchida will be playing the role of Sam, while Hiroki Touchi will play Dean. Both actors dubbed the characters for the live-action version in Japanese.

Warner Brothers Japan will be releasing the first volume containing the first two episodes on January 12, which will precede the box sets featuring episode 3 - 12 on February 2 and episodes 13 - 22 on April 6.

No word yet if or when the series will be brought to North America.
